This was one of the most interesting things that I saw on the Waimano Trail.  It was such an unusual color and simple form.  The spirals in plants follow a very simple plan of using a logarithmic spiral that dictates how they grow.  What does all of that mean?  Just look above.

I've since learned that this is called a uluhe (Hawaiian name) or false staghorn fern.
