This is a view of the Torre from the old wall near the cathedral.  The wall was part of an enormous cathedral that Siena had planned but had to be abandoned when they were hit by the plague.  The Siena cathedral is a very impressive building and this new cathedral was so large that it was going to use the existing cathedral as a wing of the new cathedral.  Take a look at this page for a view of this wall from the tower itself.
