Oyster Catchers
Oyster Catchers
There were heaps of birds on the 8 km (5 mile) walk along Mason Beach.  Lots of seagulls, which in their native element are quite beautiful and as pictured above and below are oystercatchers.  I have to say I've never seen them catch an oyster, but they are always poking around on the beach.  The all-black birds are called variable oystercatchers and the two-colored birds are pied oystercatchers

This is a bellbird.  A small bird with a song that seems hard to believe that it can come from such a small package.  There is no mistaking a bellbird when you hear it.  The first time I heard one call I said, "That has to be a bellbird."  No doubts about it at all.
