This picture isn't of anything unusual, rather it's of something quite ordinary of Stewart Island.  This is a very typical scene of the bush on the island.  Trees, roots across the trail, and lots of green.  You will spend hours each day in this sort of forest.  The trail is on the right side of the photo and goes off to the right.  The orange triangle on the tree is a trail marker.  Keep following those markers and you know you're on the track.
