This is at the western end of
Y-shaped Dusky Track. The trail ends at the shores of Supper
Cove on Dusky Sound, named since if you go out and fish, it's easy to
find supper. You can see the plants and sign are dripping
from
rain, it had been raining all day and was still raining at the time of
this picture (and continued to rain all night too).
Kind of a fancy sign for a place which so few
people see. Few people start the track here as you have to
get in by helicopter or boat, both expensive prospects.
Relatively few trampers go down to the sound from
Loch Maree as it's a long, wet tramp and also it's an out-and-back
tramp. That's fine if others want miss this wonderland. No way was I going to pass it up. No
way.
DOC had put in this new sign and I was a little disappointed.
The new sign is very efficient, formal, and sterile.
I was at the sound ten years earlier on my first Dusky Tramp.
The old sign, captures the track much better and I
very much prefer the old sign picture below. You know, as I
look
at this old photo, I get a pit in my stomach. My goodness
were
those fun times, all these tramps were fun times. What memories
to
treasure.
