As the day gives way to night, the sun sets and
things become quiet and start to cool down. I put on my cap and
thin gloves and spend the evening relaxing, writing in my journal, and
reading by candle light. The focus of the day is upon walking but
this too is a very pleasant part of the day. I especially like
the evenings when I have the hut to myself like I did this night.
It's so silent with only the sound of a stream and maybe a kiwi
calling in the distance.
I often take a picture like this on a track in honor of a Nicolas, a
friend of mine that I met my trip to NZ. He took a really nice
nighttime picture when he was on the Dusky. I've spent years trying to equal it and never can.
