The easternmost of the two tarns on the saddle.
The track is visible in the lower right of the photo. This
is just after getting up on the saddle. You can see the start of valley
to the west but really have no idea how big or deep it is at this
point. Walk for another minute and its immensity dawns on you.
This was taken on the trip to the sound on a fairly gentle day.
I had done the tramp eight years ago the wind was so strong it
was practically blowing me over and there was whitecaps in the water.
It was lightly overcast on this day but the winds were gentle.
Shortly after this was taken, the clouds cleared and the skies
were blue.
